Dr. Machar Sends Condolences To Gatdet’s Family And Promises Heroic Burial
April 17, 2019(SSNN) — Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka, a well renowned South Sudanese commander and a fierce fighter, who fought vigorously in the two Sudans, died on April 15th in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
Speaking upon his arrival in Khartoum from the Vatican City, the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/A(IO) and the Designated First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, sends his condolences to family, colleagues and friends of Gen. Gatdet and pledged a heroic burial for the late.
“Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka, the Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the South Sudan United Movement/A(SSUM/A) and the Chairman of South Sudan Opposition Alliances is a hero of the Struggle for Self-Determination and the Independence of South Sudan as well as the current Struggle for Federalism and Reforms in South Sudan” Dr. Riek Machar Teny said.
The SPLM/A(IO) Chairman, Dr. Machar, went on to promise that Gen. Gatdet’s body will be flown home tomorrow(April 18th, 2019) to be buried in his ancestral land in Ruadh Nyibol of Mayom County.
Dr. Machar pledged that Gen. Gatdet’s body will be accompanied by a high level delegation of the SPLM/A(IO) and he will be received by the military governor of Unity State, Brigadier General John Tor Tungwar in Bentiu, Unity State.
“The body of Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka shall be taken home to Mayom County on April 18th, 2019 for burial in Ruadh Nyibol. A SPLM/A(IO) high level delegation will accompany the body and the delegation will meet up with Brig. Gen. Tor Tungwar Kueigwong, governor of Liech State in Benitu and together will proceed to Ruadh Nyibol for burial” Dr. Machar reiterates.
“On behalf of the SPLM/A(IO) and the South Sudanese people, I convey our deep condolences to his family and members of SSUM and SSOA on passing on of this hero” The SPLM/A(IO) Chairman said.
“May God rests his soul in eternal peace. He will be missed by all” Dr. Machar continued.
Gen. Gatdet served under Dr. Machar in 1990s under South Sudan Independence Movement/A(SSIM/A). Gatdet also played a vital role in rescuing Dr. Machar in December 2013 when he received him at Gadiang of Jonglei State and fought back Salva Kiir’s SPLA factions and Ugandan forces. He continued to serve under the SPLM/A(IO) until when he disagreed to signing of a shaky peace deal in August 2015 and walked out of the SPLM/A(IO).
Gen Gatdet, famously known as Jundi Iraq, is believed by his fans and colleagues to have stood as a towering figure who combined artistic mastery of art of war, strategic military planning and bravery in his generation.
The passing-on of 1st. Lt. Gen. Peter Gatdet has broken social media for the last three days as both his fans and opponents went viral in a mixed feeling that combined mourning, celebration and out-pouring of praises and insults.
Some of the latest press releases that are still running viral on social media include a press release from Gen. Paul Malong Awan, Hon. Duer Tut Duer, Gen. Gabriel Duop Lam, Dr. Lam Akol, Hon. Gabriel Changson among others senior politicians and military generals.
Gen. Gatdet lived a very unique life especially in his military boots. He chose to listen and comply to author at his own discretion which put his loyalty under scrutiny many times and forced him to defect.
Gen. Gatdet was loved by his people but hated to death by his enemies.
