Dr. Lam’s group awaiting IGAD response on allocation of parliamentary seats – spokesman
April 12, 2020 (SSNN) — South Sudan’s National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin is awaiting a response from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on a complaint it raised over the allocation of parliamentary seats within the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).
Based on the revitalized peace deal, the alliance which comprise of the NDM and seven other groups, is entitled to fifty (50) which is to be divided mong the members.
Last week, Josephine Lagu, the chairperson of the alliance asked Dr. Lam to submit names of six nominees of his group to the parliament. Akol however rejected on the account that the selection process was not inline with the process set force by the alliance.
Lagu responded by threatening to conduct the nomination of other alliance members to parliament without Akol’s group.
Speaking to South Sudan News Now on Saturday, David Lawrence Lual, the spokesman of the NDM, said the group had wrote yo the regional body, IGAD in protest to the selection and that it was waiting for response.
“There is no any new development yet, we wrote a complain letter to R-JMEC copied to IGAD regarding this issue, they did not responded yet,” he said.
“Well, all the other Organizations within SSOA have already submitted their lists except NDM,” he revealed.
