Dr. Lam demands explaining why his candidate for Jonglei was not appointed
July 1, 2020 (SSNN) – The Secretary-General of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and leader of the National Democratic Movement (NDM), Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has demanded an explanation why President Salva Kiir Mayardit has not appointed his candidate for Jonglei state governor.
This comes days after the President appointed eight out of the ten state governors which saw candidates for Upper Nile and Jonglei being left out of the appointment because of rejection of the SPLM-IO nominee and differences within SSOA over who should serve as the governor.
“We made the nomination and it was not announced, and we have not yet got the reason why it was not announced,” Dr. Akol said on Tuesday morning.
Dr. Lam further blamed some members of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance who he said do not want to see his group represented in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU), both at the national and states level.
“We are dealing with a group of people in SSOA who are not independent in their thinking, a group of people who have abandoned the charter that brought us [SSOA] together and a group that has chosen to work underground,” he asserted.
“This lack of transparency is the one which is again being reflected now on the issue of the governor. That is a violation because if a party had nominated properly, then they should be announced,” he added.
