Dec 6th, 2019 (SSNN)-The ceasefire monitors, CTSAMVM, on Thursday called on the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) to immediately disburse sufficient funds for cantonment sites reported to have run out of food for several weeks.

Speaking at the opening session of the 17th CTSAMVM Technical Committee Meeting held on Thursday, the Chairman of the CTSAMVM, Maj. Gen. Desta Abiche Ageno
Chairman noted that lack of tents and medicines are some of the changes faced by armed forces in their cantonment areas.

“All cantonment sites within MVT Bor’s Area of Responsibility received food or money for food several months ago but have since run out. The provision of tents and medicine is still a challenge.
CTSAMVM urges the NPTC to release sufficient resources for cantonment to continue. Cantomnent is the foundation for the security arrangements and without sufficient resources, the cantonment process will fail.”

The ceasefire monitors expressed dismay at the slow pace of the cantonment process and stalled registrations of forces interrupted by a shortage of registration forms.

“CTSAMVM continues to monitor and verify the cantonment process, but this task remains far from complete and screening has not yet begun. Registration has stalled while the JMCC awaits the printing of additional registration form,” the CTSAMM said.

The ceasefire monitoring body called on all Parties to expedite the implementation of the peace deal.

“Time is moving quickly. With 76 days remaining, CTSAMVM urges all Parties and stakeholders to show wholehearted commitment to the agreed timetable and for NPTC to release sufficient funds to ensure this process is fully resourced.”

“As always, CTSAMVM stands ready to support implementation with neutrality, independence and impaftial reporting.”
