China offers 500,000 U.S. dollars and food aid worth 1.5 million to South Sudan

Dec 5th, 2019 (SSNN)-The Chinese government has announced to provide humanitarian assistance totaling 500,000 US dollars in cash and food aid worth 1.5 million dollars as part of in-kind support to flood-affected communities in South Sudan.

“China will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the affected people and help South Sudan to tide over the difficulty. China will provide 500,000 dollars in cash and food aid worth 1.5 million dollars,” said the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi.

The humanitarian assistance was delivered in person on Tuesday by Hua Ning, Chinese ambassador to South Sudan, during an official meeting in the capital, Juba.

For her part, South Sudan’s Foreign Minister Awut Deng Acuil praised the Chinese government for its unwavering support to the people of South Sudan, noting that the aid assistance underscores the strong relations between China and South Sudan.

South Sudan has witnessed an unprecedented level of flooding this year that the country has not experienced since its independence.

In October, South Sudan’s government
declared a state of emergency in the flood-affected regions. The State of Emergency issued by the president, applies to 30 counties in Greater Bahr El Ghazal, Upper Nile and Equatoria regions.
