Nov 2nd, 2019 (SSNN)-South Sudan’s government and opposition parties are urged to fast-track the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement to ensure timely formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity, which is expected to be formed in the next few weeks.

In a welcoming remark during the CTSAMVM Technical Committee (CTC) Meeting held recently in Juba, the Chairperson of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement, Monitoring and Verification Mechanism, General Desta Abiche reported that the progress of the implementation of the peace deal has been slow and no much is being achieved.

“As we approach the end of the Extended Pre-transitional Period on 12 November, CTSAMVM can report that progress towards the completion of Chapter 2 arrangements has been slow,” he said.

The Ceasefire monitors urged the parties to do their utmost to ensure that critical outstanding provisions of the Revitalized Peace Agreement are fully implemented.

“Parties need to do more to make sure that all the outstanding security arrangements are completed. There remains much to be done and CTSAMVM continues to urge the Parties to the conflict to ensure that remaining processes are expedited to catch up with lost time,” said CTSAMVM’s Chairman.

He further stressed that the most important thing needed at this juncture is genuine commitment and trust from all sides and how they can embrace each other as peace partners.

“During this critical time, what is needed is for Parties to accommodate one another, make compromises and agree on concrete measures to implement the key pending tasks of the Pre- transitional Period,” he pointed out.

He stated that, “We are meeting ahead of our original scheduled date because the next R-JMEC Plenary has been brought forward to 5 November in order to allow discussion prior to the 12 November end of the Extended Pre-transitional Period CTSAMVM has been very busy in the weeks since we last met.”
