Nov 25th, 2019 (SSNN)-South Sudan’s government and the United States are at diplomatic odds, as the White House decided on Monday to recall its Ambassador to South Sudan, Thomas Hushek, for further consultations on the recent failure of South Sudanese rival leaders to form a unity government by November 12.

“The Department of State has called back U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan Thomas Hushek for consultations related to the recent failure of parties to form the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity by the extended deadline of November 12,” the Trump administration said in a statement.

“While in Washingteon, Ambassador Hushek will meet with senior U.S. government officials as part of the re-evaluation of the U.S. relationship with the Government of South Sudan given the latest developments.”

The US affirms its commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of South Sudan in their quest for peace and stability.

“The United States stands with the people of South Sudan in their pursuit of peace and will work in partnership with the region to support efforts to achieve peace and a successful political transition in South Sudan.”

Earlier this month, the United States expressed its disappointment and said it would reevaluate its relationship with South Sudan over the failure of its rival leaders to form a unit government by November 12th.

The State Department stated that their inability to form a unity government as agreed upon, calls into question their suitability to continue to lead the nation’s peace process.
