April 26, 2020(SSNN) — South Sudan’s High-Level Taskforce, the body that oversees COVID-19 pandemic in the country, grants a “Special Permission” to unnamed charter plane to pick up the notorious general Lt. Gen. David Yau Yau from his hometown of Pibor to Juba as soon as tomorrow, April 26, 2020.

The letter, which was signed by the South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, describes the person to be picked up as a “private citizen”, Mr. David Yau Yau.

“Grant Special Permission for a charter plane to fly a private South Sudanese citizen, Mr. David Yauyau, from Pibor to Juba on 26 April 2020”

Mobilizing Murle Youth

The private citizen, Mr. David Yauyau, is a well known South Sudanese figure who has been known for war.

Five days ago, a video appeared on Social Media featuring David Yauyau recruiting thousands of his Murle tribesmen.

Despite that the motive of his recruitment is not yet revealed, there are speculations that Yauyau must be planning a new defection or an attack on civilians in Jonglei state;

The video, which has gone viral, received attentions for fear that the Murle youth may attack Twice East, Duk or Akobo counties of Jonglei state, however, the Murle youth can attack anywhere within their reach including Ethiopia.

Within the last two weeks, Murle youth have been accused of raiding Nuer areas in Upper Nile particularly around Ulang county.

At least 4 children were reportedly kidnapped.

Past Defection,

David Yauyau, who started his career as an evangelist in Kakuma Refugee camp, has been on spotlight since he lost elections for position of commissioner of his county 2010,

Yauyau fought the government vigorously between 2010 and 2011 but later signed a temporary peace agreement with the South Sudan government.

In less than a year, Yauyau defected again and went back to fighting the government until another opportunity presented itself when the wider conflict broke out in December 2013.

In May 2014, Yauyau reached a peace deal with president Salva Kiir, who desperately needed men like him to fight off his main rivals that included his current First Vice President, Riek Machar.

For the last six years, Yauyau has been pampered with ranks, high positions in the government and cozy personal treatments that has began to vanish with the return of peace to the world’s youngest nation.

In addition to his personal achievements that include military promotions up to the rank of Lieutenant General, deputy minister of defense and veteran affairs and deputy minister of labor, Yauyau has also secured an Administrative Area, a potential state, for his people.

Since he declared his return to SPLM/A, Gen. Yauyau broke ranks with most of his former generals including his former Deputy, Major General Khalid Butros who is still fighting the government with other militias.

It is not clear what General Yauyau wants to do this time; however, his acceptance to return to Juba may dismiss the speculations.
