BREAKING NEWS: South Sudan National Security Chief Under House Arrest in Juba
May 9th, 2019(SSNN) — South Sudan’s most powerful head of National Security, Gen. Akol Kor, is under house arrest in the capital Juba as the army prepares to dismantle the National Security intelligence.
Following the report of the UN Experts on South Sudan, the relationship between president Kiir and his most trusted man, the Chief of National Security, soared to its all time low since the two men joined the liberation over 30 years ago.
“After the UN report, the president somehow felt intimidated. A meeting was called at J1 by the president to address the issue with Gen. Akol but it seems like some people have lied to the president that the Chief of National Security was planning “something”, maybe a coup” Said the insider who spoke on condition of anonymity.
In a matter of less than a week, the relationship between the two most powerful generals went from “best friends” to arch-rivals and according to the latest reports from the inner circle of national security bureau, Gen. Akol, is now under house arrest as he is being suspected of planning a coup against the president.
“The discussion was a rough one, Gen. Akol did not see it coming. All of a sudden he is a suspect and now an enemy, just like King Paul, Gen. Paul Malong Awan.” He continued.
The insiders revealed that President Kiir called Gen. Akol two days after the release of the UN Experts report to discuss “shocking allegations” that include private training and financing of National Security and militias without the knowledge of the president.
According to the insiders, the deliberation ended abruptly and the president went on to order his Tiger battalion and the army to mane the security of the capital. He then suspended the duties of the national security.
“This is the reason there has been heavy deployment of troops on the streets of Juba over the last few days.” He said.
The confidential report confirmed that Akol was immediately ordered to cease all his duties and ordered to remain in the capital until the allegations are investigated.
For the last two days, tension has been high as South Sudan People Defense Forces, loyal to the president, move to the streets and deploy heavily around the Blue House, the headquarters of the national security.
The insiders revealed to South Sudan News Now that the top members of National Security, who are loyal to the president, have leaked classified information to the president which intensified fear of a possible coup from the national security.
The report further alleged that Gen. Akol has filed a huge stock of weapons and ammunition in the Blue House and now the army is strictly monitoring the National Security Headquarters without making an attempt to evade it due to fear of a possible retaliation from the National Security.
“The army has been here surrounding our building for the last three days. At the same time they fear evading us by force because they know our capacity in term of manpower and armaments.” The insider continued.
“South Sudan is tired of war, we urge his excellency the president, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, to not push this UN concocted report to a level that it will backfire on him and cause another spill over on our citizens” He added.
