June 8, 2020(SSNN) — Speaking to media today in Juba, South Sudan, the Minister of Information and Postal Services, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, who has been battling Coronavirus for the last three weeks has been finally declared COVID-19 negative but Makuei could not admit the verbal results until he sees it written on a piece of paper.

The Minister wants to have a COVID-19 free certificate to show to relatives, friends and anyone he meets as a prove that he is COVID-19 free.

“My tests have been taken and this morning, this afternoon, I was informed verbally that I have become negative but my response was that that is not enough” Hon. Makuei Lueth tells media at his residence in Juba, South Sudan.

Hon. Makuei sets his condition clear –  he must have a certificate in his hands or otherwise he will not return to work.

“I will not be resuming my duties until I receive my COVID-19 free certificate” The long-serving minister of information continued.

Makuei believes that some people may not believe that he is COVID-19 negative even though he has passed the WHO time frame.

“I need to be given a written result so that I can show it to the people that yes this is what I got from the health authorities that I’m COVID-19 free because these days you hardly know who is positive and who is not positive” Makuei said.

Regarding resuming work, the minister has not yet return to office and it is not clear when he may return but according to him “no certificate, no work”.

South Sudan has not been issuing COVID-19 negative certificates and so are other countries but from now on, they may have to consider this option.

Having a certificate may not be a guarantee that a former COVID-19 positive may not get the virus again as coronavirus is proven to mutate.
