BREAKING: Bul-Nuer Cattle Raided Again But How Northern Liech Government Responded This Time Shocked Many
Feb 10, 2019(SSNN) —– At least 9 cattle camps were raided at Maloathni cattle camp by armed youth from Tonj earlier this week on Tuesday, according to reports aired to South Sudan News Now(SSNN).
According to the residents of Bul-Mayom county, the raid was carried out at around 6pm when cattle were returning home in the evening, on February 6th, 2019.
“Tonj armed youth attacked cattle camps of Bul-Mayom county at Maloathni cattle camp area on the border of Tonj and Mayom seizing 9 cattle camps on 6/2/2019 at around 6PM, when cattle returning to their pegs.” Said a location resident, Turoah Nyueibel.
According to the residents, Maloathni is closed to the border between the two rival states, however, the youth believe that there were chances to recover their cattle if the government of Northern Liech state did not involve.
“The attackers overcame the armed youth at the cattle camp. All 9 cattle camps have gone and it was too late when other Bul armed youth tried to mobilise themselves to recover the cattle.” Read part of the report.
Asked about the death toll, the residents said it was not yet confirmed by the time of this writing.
Turoah said in response Governor Nguen Manytuel ordered the army to stop the youth from crossing the borders into Lake state claiming that they would repeat revenge attacks like what happened last month and that could lead to their sacking.
“Governor Nguen and Puljang stopped armed youth to retaliate for not to be removed from governorship. Bul are crying now for being stopped from going to retaliate. It was the armed youth OF Lou and Kongor of Tonj state.” Turoah said.
Similar raids were carried out last month and at least 28 people were killed in Mayom County by the Tonj youth. At least 3000 cattle were raided, however, the Bul-nuer youth strongly retaliated and killed over 120 people in renge and recovered their cattle.
In response President Kiir sacked the governor of Tonj State and appointed a successor.
