June 12, 2020 (SSNN) – The body of South Sudan army officer and President Salva Kiir’s relative lt. Col. Lual Akook (aka Lual Marine) has been flown to his home state of Warrap from the capital Juba, officials have said.

Lual who died last week had opened fire a civilians in the capital’s neighborhood of Sherikat killing at least five people and was beaten by angry protesters who demanded his arrest.

He later died from the injuries he incurred during a standoff with protesters following the killing of five civilians. The government said last week that the overall death toll in the incident has risen to nine (9).

Speaking to South Sudan News Now this afternoon, a government official said from Juba that Lual’s body has been flown to Gogrial on a chartered flight provided by President Salva Kiir himself.

“This is to inform you that Lual’s body has been flown home. He will be laid to rest in Gorial County this evening,” the official told South Sudan News Now from Juba on condition of anonymity.
