June 16, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s minister of health Madam Elizabeth Achuei has fired back at senior SPLM member Daniel Awet Akot and said the ministry of health needs doctors and not politicians.

This comes a few days after Daniel Awet Akot, a former deputy speaker of the South Sudan’s parliament and a senior member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), criticized her for being incompetence.

Akot had blamed SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny for appointing incapable people such as her.

In response, Achuei said the SPLM-IG figure was working to politicize the fight against COVID-19 saying the ministry of health needs doctors and not politicians.

“It doesn’t know whether you are a politician or not, it’s our [enemy] all of us. And by the way, doctors are not supposed to be politicians but work to save lives. This is because you are a lifesaver,” Achuei said.

“Don’t bring politics to life [matters], because this disease doesn’t know politics.”
