Vice-president Igga, entire family test positive for COVID-19
May 30, 2020 (SSNN) — South Sudan vice-president James Wani Igga and his entire family have tested positive for COVID-19, officials close to him said Saturday.
“Yes the vice-president has tested positive for coronavirus. his family members have also been affe ted by the virus,” an aide who refused to be named told South Sudan News Now (SSNN) this evening.
Igga for his part later confirmed to SSBC that he has today tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
He urged the citizens to abserve measures put forth by the authorities to minimize the spread of the virus.
The vice-president is the third in the collegial presidency publicly known person to have caught the virus.
First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and Vice President Hussein Abdebaggi have both tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Other senior government officials known to have tested positive for the virus include minister of defense Angelina Teny who is also the wife of Machar and information minister Michael Makuei Lueth.
South Sudan cases of the virus have continued to spike after president Salva Kiir Mayardit ordered that initial measures such as curfew be lifted.
