Twic and Gogrial States Governors Arrive in Bul-Nuer in Search of Stolen Cattle, Called for Compensetation and Rapariation For The Dead

June 9th, 2019(SSNN) — On Thursday, June 6th, 2019, the Governor of Northern Liech State, Dr. Joseph Nguen Monytuel receives his special guests, the two governors of twin states of Twic Mayardit and Gogrial states in Mankien, Bul South County of Northern Liech State.

“The arrival of Governor Atem Madut Yak Governor of Twic state and his counter part Governor of Gogrial state Hon Victor Atem Atem in MANKIEN airstrip – Bul South county.” Hon. Lam Tungwar, the Minister of Information said.

According to Lam Tungwar the governors and their respective delegations came to discuss security issues and cattle raiding between the three states.

“The Governors and their respective delegations where received by chairman of northern corridor bloc and Governor of northern Liech state Dr Manytuil Wejang for the Mankien peace and security review meeting which was convened on an urgent note as the insecurity was escalating between the two communities ….. ” Lam continued.

The governor were accompanied by Gen. Santino Deng Wol, the ground force commander of South Sudan Defense Forces from the Headquarters. Gen. Mathew Puljang, who was accused alongside Lam Tungwar of organizing the raids, also attended the important meeting.

The event, which was attended by members of UNMISS from both sides, ended with assurances that all the stolen cattles must be recovered and returned to their rightful owners.  In addition, the three governors and military generals agreed that all form of hate speeches and incitement must not be tolerated.

“The event was attended as well by the unmiss bentiu and kuajock as a neutral body they have witnessed what the governments in the three sisterly states resolved to paved the way forwards, the following where agreed upon for immediate implementation , recovering of all the stolen cattle from both states , compensations of all the deceased during those raids , hates speeches and incitement must be condemned and stoped by both communities , joint organize forces both the police and SSPDF will be reconstituted and empowered to enforce the resolutions agreed upon by the states .” Reads part of the report.

To enforce the  agreement, the governor agreed to order commissioners and chiefs to indentify the raiders, return stolen cattles and respect the resolutions of this agreement.

“the Governors orders commissioners, youth leaders , chiefs and herdsmen to respects this resolutions and involved in the search for the criminals personalities in all the sisterly states. the two days meeting end with reconciliations and recommitment to Kuajock peace resolutions signed in August 2018.”  Lam reports.

The governors further agreed to compensate victims, who were killed on both sides but it remains to be seen how the victims will be compensated, when and by who. This will be the first time victims of inter-tribal feuds will be compensated in South Sudan.

Thousands of herds of cattle have been raided in states such as Jonglei, Bieh and Lake states in the recent past; however, little attempts were made to recover the cattles and compensate the dead.
