April 24th 2019 (SSNN) – The commander of Sudan’s main paramilitary militia group, Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who is popularly known as Hemeti is planning to be the country’s number one man according to Western diplomats and opposition figures in Sudan quoted by Reuters.

Once a right-hand man for ousted leader Omar al-Bashir, Dagalo was a central figure during the decade-long Darfur conflict with his forces accused by regional and international organizations of carrying rapes, killings and other atrocities against civil in the country’s restive.

Following the ouster of long-time leader Omar al-Bashir who came to power in 1989, Hemeti who since denied longing for power became the second most powerful man in Sudan following his appointment as deputy head of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) set up by the military to run Sudan for up to two years until elections.

Several Western diplomats and Sudanese opposition sources quoted by the Reuters Agency said the notorious militia commander is hungry for more power, and that he helped force out al-Bashir after 30 years in office because he has set his sights on the presidency.

“Hemeti planned on becoming the number one man in Sudan. He has unlimited ambition,”  an opposition figure who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, told Reuters.
