SPLM-IO welcomes Machar’s official invitation to attend IGAD Consultation Meeting in Ethiopia

Nov 3rd, 2019 (SSNN)- The main armed opposition faction, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-IO (SPLM-IO), has welcomed the extended invitation of the SPLM-IO Chairman, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, to attend IGAD Consultation Meetings in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“On the Invitation of H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon to the IGAD Consultation Meeting of the Leadership of the Parties to the R-ARCSS In reference to the above, SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to confirm to members and the public at large that H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander in Chief of the People’s Movement SPLM/SPLA (IO) has officially received today November 2, 2019 an official invitation from IGAD to attend the consultation meeting of the leadership of the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS), that is scheduled to take place on November 8, 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.”

On Saturday, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) invited Parties to the R-ARCSS to attend a consultative meeting aimed at assessing and reviewing the status of the stalled implementation of the R-ARCSS, and charting the way forward.

“We are delighted to receive the invitation to the said meeting, and also pleased to participate in discussions of the critical and outstanding tasks of the R-ARCSS because of its importance, with the aim of hopefully achieving a full, comprehensive and sustainable peace in our beloved country,” said Puok Both Baluang SPLM (IO) Director for Information and Public Relations.

The group reaffirmed its full commitment to the implementation of the Peace Agreement in letter and spirit.

“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) reiterates its full commitment to the implementation of the (R-ARCSS), in letter and spirit, as the only way to attain lasting peace in South Sudan,” he added.
