Dec 16th, 2019 (SSNN)-The Provisional Military and Political Council, a breakaway faction headed by Major General James Ochan Puot, has accused the main opposition group, SPLM-IO, of planning to launch a multiple attacks on its positions in Maiwut and its surrounding areas.

In a statement extended to SSNN, the group explained that it had received incredible information from reliable sources that the SPLM-IO is planning to launch a major offensive against its forces in different areas around Maiwut.

“The Provisional Military and Political Council is fully aware with reliable sources from the bellow mentioned areas that Gajiok in Mandeng and Ciereng and Thiängbaar in Yoom and Kaijak respectively are mobilizing their white armies to come and attack Thoch, Jotome and Maiwut with intent to loot Ciewaw cattle,” said Paul Puok Kang, Spokesperson of the Provisional Military and Political Council.

“If attempted, PMPC is more than ready to protect the civilian population, their property and their precious lives from being looted and harmed by peace violators. This time round PMPC will deal with and response seriously to any entity that want to disrupt and threat to this peace.”

The group further accused the main opposition party of mobilizing civilians from the Gajiok community to join forces and attack the Chie-waw community in their villages.

“SPLM/A – IO must refrain from mobilizing civilians to fight civilians. What Gajiok civilians want in Gajaak land? What Ciereng and Thiängbaar want in Ciewaw land? Is that SPLM/A- IO objectives to collides civilians?
I am urging the aforementioned communities to stop that evil act of mobilizing civilians to fight other civilians. It will eventually do harm more than good to you.”

The PMPC urged the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the international community to monitor activities that would spark renewed fighting between the two forces in the area.

“The PMPC calls upon the peace partners to take notes on the evil activities that are being exercised by SPLM/A – IO by colliding civilians. Those activities are clear violation of R- ARCSS. PMPC is committed to R- ARCSS and will only response and act in self-defense.”
