South Sudan’s refugee passes with flying colours, scores (A-) in KCSE-2019
December 21st, 2019 (SSNN)-A South Sudanese refugee living in the Kakuma refugee camp has emerged as one of the top performing students in Kenya, where she posted an incredibly mean grade of 78 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Second Education (KCSE-2019)
Speaking to our correspondent on Friday, the South Sudanese refugee, Nyandeng Gai Gatluak, expressed her happiness and said she couldn’t put her feelings into words. She also commends her parents and relatives for being the driving force behind her academic success.
“I am so happy, I appreciate the Lord for giving me guidance thus far, and I highly appreciate those who have played an active role in ensuring that my dreams come true,” said Nyandeng in an exclusive interview.
Sponsored by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, through its scholarship program known as World University Service of Canada (WUSC), Nyandeng, who earned an (A-) in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams, demonstrated that refugees are enduring and can stand up to bad situations in the camp, and they can still manage it.
Nyadeng aspires to study Medicine or Engineering if given an opportunity to study at Columbia University in New York, USA.
As the family members burst with joy and happiness, her elder brother, Deng Gai Galuak expressed his profound happiness and congratulated Nyadeng on her academic achievement, wishing her good luck and success.
“Trillion congratulations to my little siblings (Nyadeng Gai Gatluak & Nyagon Gai Gatluak) for scoring (A-) & (B plain) respectively in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), 2019. As a family, we’re exceedingly proud of you. May the guide of destiny (God) bless you abundantly in your endeavors.”
