Nov 16th, 2019 (SSNN)-Kenya’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers are hunting down a South Sudanese refugee who has been accused of biting off his wife’s ear during a domestic row between him and his wife, said a family member who spoke on condition of anonymity on Saturday.

James Loturo, 41, is believed to have fled from the Kalobeyei Integrated Resettlement Camp to a nearby camp for fear of being arrested by Kenyan police officers.

“No one knows his whereabouts, he hid himself somewhere when he learned that he was going to be arrested by the police,” the family member narrated.

Kenya is one of the countries that have ratified several international and regional treaties that prohibit Gender Based Violence.

Currently, the country has ratified a number of human rights treaties on the prevention of violence against women, including the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) among others.

Since its inception in June 2015, Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement Camp is home to thousands of South Sudan’s refugees. The camp is located just outside Kakuma.
