Oct 10th, 2019 (SSNN)-South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Awut Deng Acuil and her Ethiopian counterpart, Gedu Andargachew on Wednesday discussed progress of the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

Foreign Minister, Gedu stressed on the need for speedy implementation of the peace accord and urged the Parties to do their utmost to ensure that the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity is formed in a timely manner.

South Sudan Government and Opposition Parties are under intense pressure from the international community and the region, over the slow pace of the implementation of the agreement.

Last week, the US and other donor countries called on the parties to speed up the implementation of the peace process or risk being sanctioned.

This came after the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO made it clear that it would not be part of the unity government if Kiir’s government is reluctant to implement security arrangements and other outstanding issues.
