South Sudan’s controversial youth leader meets Machar
May 13, 2020 (SSNN) – The controversial South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) chairman Gola Boyoi Gola has this afternoon met the country’s First Vice President and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
A statement from Machar’s office said the two discussed the role played by the youth body in the country as well as it activities in the fight against coronavirus in South Sudan which has now caused panic after cases surge to 194.
“The leadership of the South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) held a meeting with the First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, in his office today, Wednesday, 13 May, 2020,” the statement said.
“The SSNYU leaders briefed the First Vice President on the national role they have been playing, their establishment, representation and coordination across the States of South Sudan.” The statement continued.
“They also discussed with Dr. Machar the role they currently play, or should be actively playing in the response to the prevention of the spread of Covid-19 disease among populations in the country” it added.
It said the meeting for the most part “focused on the need to widely create awareness about the pandemic disease and disseminate the protection measures and guidelines to the grassroots across the country.”
