South Sudan business mogul dies of coronavirus

May 18, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan businessman Athian Achiek Majok has died this afternoon in the country’s capital Juba after contracting the COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, medical staff have said.

“Yes it is true, Mr. Athian passed away this afternoon. He was brought here (Dr. John Garang Infectious Disease Center) for coronavirus. We don’t when he contracted the virus,” one doctor said from Juba.

South Sudan’s cases of coronavirus have been surging since president Salva Kiir decided to easy measures put in place by his administration to curb the spread of what has killed hundreds of thousands and infected millions around the world.

South Sudan as of Saturday has 290 cases of coronavirus with four deaths. Only two people have been reported by the government to have recovered from the killer disease.
