June 8, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s ministry of health said on Tuesday that six high profile government officials including the country’s first vice president Dr. Riek Machar Teny have recovered from coronavirus.

Dr. Makur Koriom, the undersecretary of the minister of health, said in a statement on Sunday that the officials – beside Machar – include the minister of defense Angelina Teny, information minister Michael Makuei Lueth, minister of justice and constitutional affairs Reuben Madol Arol, environment minister Josephine Napon and deputy foreign minister Deng Dau Deng.

“The first vice president Dr. Riek Machar Teny has recovered along the ministers of information, defense, information, justice and the deputy minister of foreign affairs,” Koriom said.

“The last test of all the officials have returned negative and therefore are free to continue with their ordinary duties,” the official added.

Koriom said a total of fifteen people have recovered from the virus as cases soared on Sunday to over 1600.
