According to Ugandan media, the South Sudanese national identified as Duach Chuol Kaylech was arrested while trying to cross the Malaba border point from Kenya via Uganda to South Sudan.

“The Uganda Revenue Authority, the non-intrusive inspection (NII) scanner ‘spotted uncanny’ items in Duag’s hand luggage, which prompted the immigration officials to physically inspect the bag. The non-intrusive inspection scanner spotted ‘uncanny’ items in Duag’s hand luggage URA public and cooperate affairs manager, Ian Rumanyika says they found bundles of papers in size of a dollar and some liquid among other things,” the media reported.

Currency counterfeiting in many countries is considered a serious criminal offense and is punishable by law.

South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya share porous border points, making it extremely difficult for immigration officials to control the flow of prohibited items.
