PMPC welcomes Kiir’s compromise on the number of states, urges citizens to embrace peace

February 18, 2020 (SSNN)—The Provisional Military and Political Council (PMPC), a pro-government faction led by Maj. Gen. James Ochan Puot, has sent a congratulatory message to President Kiir, welcoming the decision that led to the country’s return to its former 10 states as part of a compromise to end the deadlock over the number of states and their boundaries.

“Provisional Military and Political Council (PMPC) headed by Maj-General James Ochan Puot in it’s headquarters Maiwut town is sending it’s Congratulatory message and Support to H:E General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic for the wise decision he made by returning our Country to its former 10 states,” said PMPC in its statement extended to SSNN.

Adding that, “This courageous decision is only for the seek of South Sudanese People to end their long suffering and this decision shows that the President was elected by the citizens of this Country and still deserve to be re-elected by the same citizens.”

The group strongly reaffirms its commitment to support the step taken by the presidency in ensuring that peace is fully achieved in the country.

“The Leadership of PMPC together with entire Community of Gajaak will stand permanently behind the President for this peace time until the up coming general election.”

The statement pointed out that plans are underway to integrate the PMPC forces into the national army.

“H:E the President has ordered the integration of PMPC forces into SSPDF, the country’s national Army and this week he has officially confirmed and signed their lists. This move has pleased both PMPC and the whole Gajaak Community and appreciated their wise decision they made on the 22th September 2019 when switching their support from the failed Leadership of SPLM/A-IO of Riek Machar and declared under the wise Leadership of Kiir Mayardit, the Country President.”
