March 20, 2020(SSNN) — With deepest sympathy, we regret to inform the Nuer Community worldwide that the Nuer International Conference that was organized to be held in multiple locations including Calgary, Canada and Melbourne, Australia has been postponed for this year due to the outbreak of coronavirus that necessitated lockdown and state of emergencies in over 140 countries around the world.

Notwithstanding that the organizers of this important event have weighed all the possibilities within the last two weeks to see if the pandemic would be contained before April 11th, 2020 and whether or not the participation would  still fair out as expected, it is also highly anticipated that the society, as a whole, will bear psychological and economic aftermath of COVID-19 for many months or a year, and therefore, it was unanimously agreed in the best interest of the Nuer Community to extend the event for at least one year. The correct dates, time and venues will be announced as soon as they become available!

Brief Information about the Event

Founded to consolidate unity, integrity and prosperity of the “Nɛi ti Naath” worldwide, the Nuer International Conference aims to inaugurate the Naath International Day that shall be commemorated by the Nuer people and the friends of the Nuer annually.

On this specific day in April of every year, the Nuer people shall celebrate Nuer Ka ŋuan International Day with passion and enthusiasm, and to showcase their beautiful culture, traditional way of life, leadership and heritage as well as discuss the emerging trends that are impacting their lives and co-existence.

On the Nuer Ka ŋuan International Day, the Nuer community shall celebrate their overall success and strategize a direction that would harmonize peaceful co-existence, not only in Rööl Naath but also between Rööl Naath and the neighboring communities. Each event would also identify and stress on areas that deserve important consideration and attention.

Despite that the Conference has been postponed this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, the vision is not postponed. The organizers will use this window of time to mobilize resources and build infrastructure for the future events.

We strongly encourage the Nuer leaders and intellectuals across the board to constructively continue to sensitize the community, and to use this idea or its platform to organize and restructure itself.

Lastly, we sincerely appreciate our invited dignitaries and keynote speakers for their prompt responses to our invitation and similarly we deeply apologize for any inconvenience this postponement might have caused to you or your family.
