Nigeria donates $300,000 in support of cantonment process

Nov 14th, 2019 (SSNN)-In support of the cantonment process in South Sudan, the Nigerian government has pledged $300,000 in humanitarian assistance to government and opposition forces that are expected to be unified upon completing their training.

According to the Nigerian official, humanitarian aid will go a long way towards providing food, water shelters and medicines to the unified forces in their respective cantonment sites.

“Nigeria has pledged $300,000 (N108,450,000.00) donation to the unified South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF),” said a statement seen by South Sudan News Now.

The pledgee was officially announced by Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, during his recent official visit to the Republic of South Sudan.

For her part, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sarah Sanda stated that the visit of Nigerian officials to South Sudan is part of Nigeria’s commitment as a Member of the AU High Level Ad-Hoc Committee (C-5) for South Sudan and to reaffirm its support to the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

“Onyeama was received on arrival by President of South Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayrdit. They held discussions on the status of the implementation of the R-ARCSS,” said Sara Sanda said.
