Nov 4th, 2019 (SSNN)-A South Sudanese refugee, mother of four, who lives in a refugee camp in Kenya, has left her children destitute with no water or food to eat for three days, according to a neighbor interviewed by our East African reporter.

Michael Lonya, a 5-year-old boy and his younger siblings, are said to have spent three days on an empty stomach and without water, as the Kakuma refugee camp has also suffered a major water shortage in the past three days.

After the media team came to his rescue, the boy was given some loaves of bread and drinking water in an effort to save his life (Photo courtesy: Nyamilepedia)

He looks feeble and hungry and was unable to move or stand when asked to do so, as a result of excessive hunger.

According to a neighbor who recounted the story, “Lonya’s mother barely cares about her children, she runs up and down and sometimes spends days away from her children.”

“Oh my God, how can we know that these children were dying of hunger inside the house,” the neighbor reacted with shock.

Established in 1992, the Kakuma refugee camp currently hosts thousands of South Sudan’s refugees who have fled one of the deadly civil wars in Africa.

Due to persistent food shortages and violence in some parts of the country, UNHCR continues to register a number of refugees fleeing South Sudan in search of refuge in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.

South Sudan government and the Opposition Parties signed a revitalized peace agreement aimed at restoring peace and stability in the country, however, the implementation of R-ARCSS has been slow and currently on fragile ground due to unresolved outstanding issues.
