Maj. Gen James Ochan, Gen. Khor Chuol ordered to report to Juba over Maiwut’s incidents
January 9th, 2020 (SSNN)—The Chairman of the Provisional Military and Political Council, Major General James Ochan Puot, and the SPLA-IO’s senior commander, Khor Chuol Giet have been reportedly instructed to report to Juba and shed light on the recent clashes between the SPLA-IO and PMPC forces in Jekou.
“The leader of the government-allied military group, General James Ochan Puot, and the SPLA-IO commander in Maiwut, General Khor Chuol Giet, have been asked to report to Juba over fighting in Maiwut,” Radio Tamazuj quoted Lam Paul Gabriel as saying.
On Monday, pro-government forces and SPLA-IO troops engaged in fierce fighting, which led to the dislodgement of the SPLA-IO forces from their military base in Jekou.
The order was issued jointly by the National Pre-Transitional Committee and heads of the Joint Defense Board.
“The meeting was between the chair of the NPTC [National Pre-Transitional Committee], the head of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), Gen. Gabriel Jok, and the SPLA-IO’s deputy chief of staff for administration, Gen. James Koang Chuol,” Lam said.
“The two army generals will come to Juba so that we stop the ongoing fighting there. The parties have to embark on the implementation of the peace agreement,” he added.
