Machar’s SPLM-IO sends condolence after Gen. Peter Gatdet’s death

April 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by the country’s First Vice President designate, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, has released a condolence message following the death of prominent rebel military commander and de facto leader of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).

On Monday, relatives and close aides were quoted by Nyamilepedia as confirming the latest development on Gen. Gatdet saying the later died of heart attack during the evening hours of April 15th.

“We have learned with utmost dismay the passing of Gen. Peter Gatdet Yak, Chairman of South Sudan United Movement (SSUM) yesterday 15/4/2019 in Khartoum, Sudan,” the SPLM-IO said in a statement signed by the group’s director of information Puok Both Baluang.

“On behalf of members and leadership of the SPLM/A (IO), I wish to extend our heartfelt condolence to his family and relatives. Our sympathies are also with the countless family, friends of late Gen. Peter Gatdet Yak and the people of South Sudan at large during this difficult time bereavement,” it added.
