Machar returns to office – spokesman

June 15, 2020 (SSNN) — South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has today, Monday, returned to work after one month since he announced that he has been infected with COVID-19, his office said this morning.

In mid May, Machar announced that he and his wife Angelina Teny, who is also the country’s minister of defense, were tested positive for COVID-19, the virus associated with COVID-19.

Last week, the two – who are among a number of senior senior government officials tested positive for the virus – were tested negative for the virus, prompting doctors to discharge them from quarantine after conclusion that the have recovered from COVID-19.

“H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, the First Vice President of the Republic, has resumed his public office duties today, Monday, 15 June, 2020, after recovering from the COVID-19,” James Gatdet Dak, Machar’s press secretary said today.

“This is after his official discharge last week after testing negative twice in accordance with the follow up guidelines from the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO),” Gatdet added.
