Machar leaves for Addis Ababa to attend AU High-level MeetingĀ

February 7th, 2020 (SSNN)-Opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar left Sudan this morning heading to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to attend a high-level meeting of the African Union High-Level Ad Hoc Committee (AD-HOC) or (C5) for South Sudan, an opposition official announced.

ā€œThe Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) and the First Vice President Designate of the the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon and his accompanying delegation left Khartoum this morning for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the Meeting of Head of State and Government of the African Union High-Level AD-HOC Committee (C5) on South Sudan, that is scheduled to be held tomorrow 8 February 2020 on the invitation of H.E. Matamele Cyril Ramaphosa, president of the Republic of South Africa and Chair of African Union High-Level AD-HOC Committee for South Sudan (C5),ā€ the statement said.Ā 

Puok Both Balualng SPLM (IO), Director of Information and Public Relations says that the meeting is expected to touch on the issue of the number of states and their boundaries, a key outstanding task which has been a stumbling block since last year.Ā 

ā€œThe meeting shall discuss the pending critical tasks in the extended 100 days of the pre-transitional period of the R-ARCSS notably the Transitional Justice (Chapter V), Number of the State and thier Boundaries (Chapter I); and the Security Arrangements (Chapter II), and to chart away forward with regard to the outstanding critical pre-transitional tasks,ā€ Puok said.Ā
