Machar Arrives in Juba With 300 Forces

South Sudan’s First Vice President Designate, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has arrived in Juba this morning, October 19, 2019 to meet with President Salva Kiir and the United Nation Security Council that will visit the capital tomorrow.

Machar was accompanied by a huge delegation that include strong 300 bodyguards and security forces. The three hundred soldiers will join their counterparts, who arrived recently and are now being trained outside the capital, Juba.

“He also came with a 300 force, who were directly transferred to the cantonment area for training” Reads part of a press briefing sent out by the South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the First Vice President Designate will meet with president Kiir to consult on the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity(R-TGNU).

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation(MF&IC) of the Republic of South Sudan would like to inform the general public, its embassies/missions abroad, the members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Republic of South Sudan, and media outlets that Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Designated First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairman of the SPLM/A(IO) with his accompanied delegation arrived in Juba this morning, 19th October 2019 from Khartoum, Republic of Sudan” Reads of the statement.

“This afternoon, H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan will be holding a face-to-face meeting with Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon to consult on the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity(R-TGNU) and other matters related of concern related to the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan(R-ARCSS) ” The Ministry continued.,

The Ministry further announced that President Kiir, Dr. Machar and other signatories will receive and meet the delegation of the United Nation Security Council in Juba, South Sudan, on October 20th, 2019.

Before the two main principles, Salva Kiir and Riek Machar, met this afternoon, the two leaders convened their heads of their security and NPTC departments to brief them on the implementation  of the peace agreement.

So far the parties decry slow progress on implementation of the security arrangement that include lifting of the state of emergency, cantonment and training of forces; however, the two leaders are under pressure to meet the next dateline which is coming due in just three weeks.
