Lou-Nuer Youth Association For “Development” Begins Elections in Juba

April 14, 2019(SSNN) — A faction of Lou-Nuer Youth, who are predominantly loyal to Gen. Taban Deng Gai, have kicked off campaigns this morning in the national capital, Juba, as they head off for elections later in the afternoon.

According to Deng Gai Gatluak, a former SPLA-IO youth league chairman under Gen. Taban Deng Gai, who masterminds this reorganization, the “open air campaign” starts at 9am and will continue for 2 hours before the elections begins later on at 11am.

“Open Air Campaign will commence tomorrow morning from 9:00am – 11:00am. Voting exercise will start at 11:05am – 2:30pm.” Deng Gai Gatluak posts on social media.

Although there are concerns from other Lou-Nuer youth, who are distancing themselves, for various reasons, this factions is set to encourage peace and development in Lou.

According to the electoral committee of the Lou Nuer Youth Association for Development (LNYAD), three candidates are confirmed to be contesting for the chairmanship of this association. The three candidates are:

  1. Mr. Wal Makuach Wiu
  2. Mr. Dhuor Reath Badeng
  3. Mr.Puok Tut Rang

Although it is yet to be confirmed, the candidates, who are being endorsed along sectional lines, are rallying votes with alleged supports from politicians with interests to pull out Lou Nuer youth from UNMISS camps and East Africa to joint their coalition.

In other reports, members of Lou-Nuer intellectuals in diaspora have raised concerns that the controversial elections should be put on hold until peace and stability returns to Lou-Nuer to level grounds for such exercises.
