Nov 20th, 2019 (SSNN)-South Sudan’s incumbent transitional government has disbursed an additional US $ 40 million in an effort to expedite the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

“The Government of South Sudan has paid 40 million USD to the National Pre-transitional Committee (NPTC) to complete the pending tasks during the extended 100 one hundred days before the formation of the Revitalized Government of National Unity in February next year,” the Presidency said in a statement.

For his part, the Chairperson of the National Pre-Transitinal Committee, Tut Gatluak welcomed the disbursed funding, saying “the amount will allow various Mechanisms to perform their expected duties as soon as possible.”

On November 7, South Sudan government and opposition groups extended the formation of the unity government for 100 days, owing to the slow pace of the implementation of the peace agreement caused by lack of funding.

The Kiir administration has been under increasing pressure from the international community and peace guarantors to release funding needed for speedy implementation of the peace process.
