Kiir to replace long-time ally as presidential advisor

June 8, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit is reportedly planning to replace his long-time ally, presidential advisor on security, Tut Gatluak Manime, after a group of Greater Bahr El-Ghazal community leaders accused him of being behind attacks by armed Youth from Unity state on Warrap state.

Gatluak was appointed in 2016 as the country’s presidential advisor on security.

He is a former member of the National Congress Party (NCP) in Sudan and has been accused – along Bona Malual and ex-health minister Dr. Riek Gai Kok of – working to derail stability in the world’s youngest nation.

Speaking to South Sudan News Now this afternoon, a senior government official said from Juba that a group of ten (10) community leaders from the Greater Bahr el-Ghazal region’s Warrap state had approached Kiir last week and raised several issues against Tut.

“Last week, ten community leaders and elders from Greater Bahr el-Ghazal and particularly Warrap state came and met the president at his residence in Juba one,” the senior government official who refused to be named said.

“They raised many issues including the issue of the cattle raids in Warrap by youth from Unity state and Mayom in particular. These people have been terrorizing our people and this is where the president have promised to remove Tut Gatluak because he has been arming them,” the official added.
