June 12, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has summoned the country’s head of National Security Service’s Internal Security Bureau (ISB) General Akol Koor Kuc over a private airport opened in a village in Tonj North County, two senior officials said.

Last week, the General Akol Koor opened a private airstrip in Awul village in Tonj North County. Reasons for the opening of a private airport whose construction began in January this year are still not known.

Speaking to South Sudan News Now this morning, a government official at the presidency said Kiir summoned the national security chief on Tuesday and a meeting took place on Thursday afternoon at the state house J1.

“The president of the Republic summoned yesterday, the director of the Internal Security Bureau Akol Koor because he has opened an airport in Tonj,” the official said from the capital Juba over phone.

“There is a reason to worry. Many counties in Warrap do not have airstrips and the president is worrying what is special about Awul village,” the official further told South Sudan News Now.
