Kiir sacks undersecretary of health
June 10, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit has removed the undersecretary of the ministry of health Makur Koriom, according to a decree read out on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.
The reasons behind the sacking were not however mentioned but disagreements between the undersecretary and minister of health have grown in recent weeks leading up to today’s decision by the president.
In a separate decree, Kiir named Mayen Machut Machiek as the new undersecretary.
Last week, the minister of health Elizabeth Acuei wrote to the president asking for sacking of the undersecretary over corruption issues.
Makur reportedly embezzled around $30,000 that belongs to the ministry and were supposed to be used for the fight against the COVID-19.
