Kiir heads to SA on official visit

January 30, 2020 (SSNN)—South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his accompanying delegation left Juba for Pretoria, South Africa, Thursday morning for a three-day working visit, at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphos.

According to the Presidency, “President Salva Kiir will hold bilateral meetings with his South African counterpart Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, to strengthen and deepen the good bilateral relations between the two countries.”

Statement added that “the leaders will discuss issues of mutual interest, including the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.”

South Africa has been part of peace efforts in South Sudan for last few years, leading as the chair of the African Union High-level Ad Hoc Committee for South Sudan or C5.

Earlier this month, South Africa’s Deputy President, David Mabuza proposed an Arbitration Mechanism for the outstanding issue, especially the number of states and their boundaries.
