Indian Battalion Organizes Veterinary Camp in Kodok, Upper Nile State

May 6, 2021(SSNN) — Indian Battalion based at Malakal in UNMISS effectively carried out 02 days veterinary aid camp and animal health awareness campaign to livestock owners at Kodok in South Sudan from 16 April to 17 April, 2021.

Kodok, formally known as Shilluk Kingdom, is located at Western Nile in Upper Nile State.

According to Lt. Col. Philip Varghese, the Indian Veterinary, a total of 508 animals were treated and wormed.

“A total of 508 animals were treated and dewormed in the camp” said Lt Col Philip Varghese, the Indian Vet.

The Indian vets also handed over reusable masks and COVID-19 awareness posters that they brought from their Field Office in Malakal to be distributed through County Commissioner office.

Mr. Joseph Aban, County Commissioner of Kodok visited the veterinary camp and interacted with the veterinary team on the health status of animals.

Commissioner Aban thanked the Indian Battalion and UNMISS for the extended support and requested the Indian Battalion to continue this support for the betterment of the community of Kodok.

Mr. Charles Otwali, Executive Director of Kodok County, also appreciated the efforts.

Sister Malia and Sister Mollydmi from the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba and Father Assal and Father Anbino from local church, Kodok also visited the camp and cherished the efforts of Indian Battalion extended towards empathy to the sick animals.

The veterinary aid camp was highly effective with active involvement of livestock owners and all stated their gratitude to the Indian peacekeepers.
