February 1, 2020 (SSNN)—The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is expected to convene a Consultation Meeting for the leadership of the Parties to the R-ARCSS from Monday, 3 to 5 of this month at Pyramid Continental Hotel, Juba.

According to IGAD, the consultation meeting between the Parties is aimed at resolving the issue of the Number of States and their Boundaries, a pending critical task that has hindered the formation of a unity government since last year.

The forum is slated to bring together peace guarantors, including South Africa’s Vice President David Mabuza, who last year proposed an arbitration mechanism to break the ongoing impasse over the states’ issue.

The recent deadlock between the government and opposition parties over the number of states and their borders casts doubt on whether the Parties will be able to meet the deadline for the formation of a unity government.
