Monday, February 25, 2019(SSNN) — The IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ambassador Dr. Ismail Wais, held an urgent meeting with Lt. Gen. Thomas Cirilo to discuss the timeframe and modalities for further engagements with him and his team.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Kenya to Ethiopia, representative of the Uganda Embassy to Ethiopia, and the Interim Chairperson of RJMEC.

The Special Envoy and his team highlighted the urgency of stopping the ongoing hostilities especially in Yei River State and other affected areas. He further urged Lt. Gen. Thomas Cirillo to give the ongoing engagement a chance to succeed by silencing the guns.

The Special Envoy calls upon all other parties involved in hostilities to abide by the Permanent Ceasefire in the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

The consultation was held pursuant to the IGAD Council of Ministers’ directive issued to the Special Envoy for South Sudan at the 66th Extraordinary Session tasking him to reach out to the non-signatory parties to the R-ARCSS to join its implementation.
