Duk County Youth Association condemns attacks on Lou-nuer
May 17, 2020(SSNN) — A South Sudanese youth group from the neighboring Duk county condemns the ongoing barbaric attacks in the neighboring Uror county and other Lou-nuer areas.
The attacks, which have claimed many lives, burned down houses and abducted children and women, is believed to be carried out by Youth from Murle tribe of the recently established Greater Pibor Area Administration (GPAA).
The attacks began at around 5 AM yesterday, May 16, 2020 in Pieri and adjacent suburbs, however, the governments in Juba and Jonglei state are yet to respond or condemn the incidents.
Fighting has been going on and off since yesterday between the local youth known as the White Army and the Murle youth under the banner of Cobra. Many people, mostly children and elderly, have been reportedly killed.
Cobra was a government allied militia under the former Deputy Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Lt. Gen. David Yauyau, who recently returned from Pibor in compliance with an order from Juba.
