Sep 29, 2020(SSNN) — South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, met the African Union(AU) Ambassador to South Sudan, Professor Joram Bisworo, today in his office in the capital, Juba.

According to Dr. Machar’s press officials, Dr. Joram Bisworo commended the First Vice President and the SPLM/A-IO leadership for their commitment to peace in the country.

“The African Union (AU) Ambassador to South Sudan, Professor Joram Biswaro, has appreciated the First Vice President and Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO), Dr. Riek Machar Teny, for the commitment to peace by his leadership and party.” Read part of the statement from Machar’s office.

“Ambassador Biswaro made the statement today after a meeting with Dr. Machar. He called on all parties to the R-ARCSS to speed up the implementation of the peace agreement and silence the guns forever.” Machar’s office press statement continued.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dr. Joram said

“The impression that I got is that his excellency is fully committed to silent the guns. That is the message I can take from here that SPLM-IO and his leadership is fully committed to see to it that guns in South Sudan remain silent forever” The AU Ambassador said.

“His side is ready to re-double the efforts to see to it that the missed time lines are catch up so that there shouldn’t be any pretex for extension” Dr. Joram continued.

Despite the assurance, the parties are running almost two years behind the schedules and the current renogiations are lengthy and full of deadlocks leaving little hopes if the parties will hit the deadlines or not.

South Sudan peace agreement was signed on September 12, 2018 on a three year term transitional period, however, the parties are yet to implement what would be the basis of the peace agrement i.e. the security arrangement, new parliament and constitutional amend.
