April 13, 2020 (SSNN) — A deadly attack on a village South East of the disputed region of Abyei on Monday has killed at least four people and also resulted in the abduction of two children, the chief administrator for Abyei at South Sudan presidency said.

Kuol Alor Kuol said the attack occured during the early hours of Monday at the village of Mabok, some seventeen (17) miles South East of the disputed territory.

“Today Morning at dawn, Monday April. 13, 2020, the Missiriya Militias, attacked the village of Mabok (17) miles South East of Abyei Town, the attack claimed the lives of four innocent citizens; two children are abducted; many houses were burned; and more than one hundred (100) Goats and citizens’ properties were also looted by the Misserya,” Kuol said in a statements seen by South Sudan News Now this evening.

This attack comes a few months after a deadliest one in January in which dozens of people were killed and 15 children were kidnapped. The people of Abyei had blamed the United Nations Interim Security Forces for Abye (UNISFA) for failing to protect them.

Kuol further said they condemn the attack and urged the UNISFA to take all the necessary measures to protect the people of Abyei and bring the culprits to justice.

“The people and administration of Abyei Special Administrative Area, condemn this barbaric attack in strongest terms possible and our condolences and heartfelt to the bereaved females and friends of the victims of Mabok attack,” he said.

“We asked UNISFA force to take necessary measures to prevent such attack within Abyei box and to apprehend the criminals who have executed the attack,” he added.
