Nov 22nd, 2019 (SSNN)-The Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVT) met last week with Major General James Ochan Puot, head of the Provisional Political and Military Council, to discuss and probe into alleged violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (HoA) in Maiwut.

“CTSAMVT visited Maiwut from 13-15 November to investigate allegations concerning recent violence,” the ceasefire monitors said on Thursday.

Major General James Ochan Puot, was one of the SPLA-IO’s top commanders. He pledged his allegiance to South Sudan government under President Salva Kiir Mayardit following months of intense clashes between his forces and the SPLA-IO troops in Maiwut and other surrounding areas.

He subsequently formed a Provisional Military Council on the grounds to protect and defend the local population from any aggression if the forces loyal to the leader of the SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar continue to wage war against them.
