May 11, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan coronavirus cases have closed to 200 after the country’s ministry of health said this evening that eighteen more people tested positive for the deadly virus.

Yesterday, the government announced that 36 people – most of them South Sudanese – tested positive for the virus.

The surge in cases came after President Salva Kiir ordered that measures put in place by him to curb the spread of the diseases be eased.

Speaking to SSBC this evening, the undersecretary of the ministry of health, Matur Koriom, who is also the spokesman of the high-level taskforce, said eighteen (18) cases were registered on Monday.

He said the eighteen cases include one from Bentiu POC and Saba Children Hospital.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 174.

Matur however did not mention if the Saba case is among medical staff fighting the virus in the country.
