Nov 9th, 2019 (SSNN)-The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), a coalition group of signatory parties to the R-ARCSS, during the IGAD’s Ministerial Consultative Meeting with Leadership of Parties to the Revitalized Agreement – has accepted the extension of the pre-transitional period by 100 days as agreed by South Sudan’s government and the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO at a Tripartite Summit held on November 7th under the auspices of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a brief statement issued on Saturday by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), IGAD, the opposition alliance group, reportedly agreed to the 100-day extension, noting that the Revitalized Peace Agreement remains as the only viable solution to the country’s ongoing political instability.

“The SSOA agrees to 100 days extension, calling for peace to remain a priority & chart a path to development & nation building, [and] urging parties that another extension after this will extend the suffering of South Sudanese… calling on principals to honor their word & calling on IGAD to hold them accountable,” the statement quoted the South Sudan Opposition Alliance as saying.

Meanwhile, the South Sudanese government and opposition groups agreed to engage non-signatories that are not part of the peace process and bring them onboard, so that the agreement remains comprehensive.

“Parties to the Revitalized Agreement of South Sudan have requested that the non signatory parties & other stakeholders be included for confidence building & to keep the Revitalized Agreement intact for the realization of peace in South Sudan,” the statement added.
