BREAKING: South Sudan Confirmed Its First Case of Coronavirus among UN Staffs
April 5, 2020(SSNN) — A recently employed United Nations dutch national has been confirmed as the first victim with the Coronavirus in South Sudan.
According to the UN report, the victim arrived in Juba five weeks ago and has been carrying symptoms of the virus until she recently volunteered to be tested and turned out positive.
“Juba, South Sudan, 5 April 2020; the United Nations in South Sudan has confirmed a case of coronavirus disease(COVID-19) among its staff”.
“The patient has been resident in South Sudan for five weeks. She started working from home immediately after the onset of the symptoms and voluntarily request to be tested to check her status with regard to COVID-19. The patient is recovering well”.
South Sudan’s Ministry of health and World Health Organization are leading the investigation and testing of people who have been in contact with the patient.
According to the UN report, a full list of people who came into contact with the patient is being compiled for people to be tested and quarantined.
“A full list of people who came into contact with the patient is being compiled, and quarantine and follow-up has begun immediately together with the Ministry of Health. The Individuals will be followed up for the mandatory 14 days, checked for symptoms and those who develop symptoms will be tested for COVID-19.” The UN Report continued.
The United Nations is now helping local efforts to raise awareness on prevention measures to ensure that the spread is contained.

“The priority is to protect the people of South Sudan and UN Staff who are here to serve. For that reason, the UN will make every effort to continue its activities to protect civilians, provide humanitarian assistance, build peace and support development.” Reads part of UN Report.
